There are no shortage of possibilities since Warner was such a prolific advertiser. Technology came to a point years ago where square doored safes were equally secure as their round doored counterparts. These safes are not designed to be fireproof, but are true burglary resistant safes. There should be a tag attached on the front of the safe, or to the inside door panel which shows its rating. A square lock should only throw one bolt.
When the door is rotated closed, the lock will throw a bolt(s) to prevent the door from rotating to the open position. The body should be 1 inch solid plate, and the door 1.5 inch. The door closes, then rotates into locking position. The type of safe you are looking at is a "lug door". This type of service should cost around $100 depending on your particular location. They should not only be checking the lock, but also all of the boltwork. A safe tech is also familiar enough with safes to know when something looks wrong. Using the wrong lubricant, or lubricating the wrong place can eventually cause a lockout. Many locks have very tight tolerances, require specific types of lube, and only on specific parts. Keeping the lock clean and lubricated will extend its life greatly. Typically we pull the lock apart, lubricate it to factory specs, and check for worn and damaged parts. Although a lock is not as complex as a car engine, the maintenance is pretty similar.ĭepending on the amount of use, a safe tech should service the lock every 1 to 5 years.
